New and more accessible information is now available on all water share and allocation trades in Victoria and the volumes of available (or unused) water held by private water holders, environmental water holders or water corporations. This is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to improve public water market information and increase water market transparency.

This initiative is part of delivering on one of the actions from the recently published review of Victorian water market effectiveness in line with Water for Victoria.

Information is now available to view and export on:

  • All water share trades by region from present back to 2009/10. This information includes data on all trades including those that have been recorded or rejected and characteristics of the sellers and buyers including trading zone and delivery system.
  • All allocation trades by region and year from present back to 2009/10. This information includes data on all approved and refused trades and characteristics of the sellers and buyers including whether the trade is commercial, non-commercial or environmental.

A new report is also available which summarises the water available in a system and how it is split between private water holders, the environment and water corporations. The availability of this new information will improve public access and analysis of market information and help market participants gain further insights into market trends and behaviours.

Further improvements to public market information will continue to occur as part of the Victorian Government’s commitment under Water for Victoria to improve the effectiveness of water markets.
